Watchdog: Bill on new data processing rules to protect Russians

MOSCOW, Nov 18 (PRIME) -- A bill submitted to the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, introduces new rules of personal data processing and will protect Russians’ rights, the communications service said on Wednesday in a statement.

“With the adoption of the bill, a website owner will be obliged to receive consent of a citizen to process his personal data or present any other legal grounds of their use, in particular, their public importance, and will be obliged to inform third parties of possible restrictions of their processing and distribution,” the service said.

“The citizen will be authorized not only to impose conditions on  the use of his personal data by third parties, but also demand the owner of any Internet resource to delete them, while the website owner will have to prove legitimacy of use of personal data.”

The bill was submitted on Tuesday by Anton Gorelkin, a member of the information policy committee.
